Electrical Engineer Needed
Mighty Mule Gate openers made by GTO or Gates That Open are some of the most unreliable products I have ever used in my life. Their mechanical design is ok, but their electrical engineers should not be allowed to design any product ever again. They take no consideration for over charging a battery, which ten minutes of research on the internet would tell you not to do. Their designs are overly complicated and highly buggy. They do no reverse polarity protection, which is a simple matter and not expensive to implement. The system crashes without fault lights regularly and has so many non-recurring issues that fault finding a problem is all but impossible.
One lesson learned, if you are still using the small AGM batteries in the units that you replace every 11 months, STOP now. Buy a car battery and put it in a plastic box next to the unit.
As I have 2 double gates, and 1 single gate using Mighty Mule openers they are the bane of my existence. Every 3 to 6 months I am out working on one or another of my gates. I am here at amazon today to order another replacement controller board. Number three.
About the same time I installed these gate openers I installed a garage door opener in my garage, it has NEVER not worked. I have NEVER had to fiddle with it, I have NEVER needed to change a battery, I have NEVER ordered a replacement part. Why is that?
GTO should change their name to GTSO (Gates That Sometimes Open)
May god have mercy on the person who designed these units.
