This misses the mark. It lacks romance and has a cringeworthy hero
I read this book through kindle unlimited and found that it missed the mark. It lacks romance and has a cringeworthy hero. Spencer is the " hero" and he is crass, vulgar and lacks a romantic soul. His sordid past bites the hero and heroine in the butt in a BIG way. I honestly do not know how anyone would get passed it and move forward together. That the hero is the architect of the heroine's beloved brothers' marriage unraveling and the "hero" was not only exposed to her entire family but to the entire world is an enormous burden and obstacle to achieving a HEA with the " hero." The " hero" then only gives the heroine a couple of weeks to process this sordid, toxic evidence and public humiliation. He was going to ask her to marry him but because she is a couple of hours late to showing up on his birthday and because for about 12 hours he thought she wasn't choosing to return him, he tells her when she does show up like twelve hours later that he will never marry her now. And guess what? This winner of moral turpitude, this romantic " hero " chooses to punish her for two whole years and keeps turning her down when she either asks him to marry her or when she asks him if he will once again ask her to get engaged. Instead he constantly insists he will never marry. Really? On what planet would this be considered romantic that someone who has filled his entire adult life with base moral depravity chooses to torture a woman who came to him as an innocent, lived with the effects of his iniquitous actions breaking up her brother's marriage and lived with the infamy of being his girlfriend when the entire world knew he was responsible for the adultery (and he has been with hundreds of women to boot sometimes two in the same day). He should have licked her boots and said yes ma'am can I have another as he made it up to her everyday for the rest of eternity for allowing him to stay in her life, not tortured her and made her wonder day in day out if he was going to stay with her because he wouldn't commit to her? Seriously? The innocent person doesn't deserve evidence of his commitment to her for two entire years? It is honestly nauseating. I was on the fence because he was a cringeworthy " hero" to begin with but this evidence at the end of the book of his torturing a good woman who loved his sorry a** was beyond the pale. I had to push myself to give this 2 stars. If you are pressed for time or resources skip this mess and instead read this author's books "Mr. Master's", "Dr. Stanton" or " Find Me Alastar." These books are truly romantic and their are plenty of erotic moments and yet they deliver real heroes and romance galore. This current book is just cringeworthy and I can't recommend it if you are looking for a satisfying romance because you won't find it here.
