4 MONTHS OF SAVING GARDEN VEGGIES AND DEFINITELY NOT SATISFIED!!!
I waited until now to give this product a fair review. I figured it deserved that, at the least.
I bought a brand new "FoodSaver GameSaver Deluxe" in June 2015. In July I also bought 2 orders of these Universal Vacuum Bags 8" bag rolls (4 rolls in total) and back in June when I bought the GameSaver I initially ordered 2 orders of 11" and 8" bags (4 rolls in total). My wife and I canned almost 300 jars from the garden and filled a 15.6 CF chest freezer with vacuum sealed bags of more garden veggies along with other things we purchased in bulk dry and vacuum bagged. So I really think I have the experience and have fully tested this product under normal everyday use for a summer of gardening in order to give this product this review.
First of all, I wonder why the reviewer who gave the tip that you should probably double seal both ends of these bags because they have about a 20% chance of seal failure with just one seal per end but still gave it 5 stars even with a stated 2% failure rate with a double end seal. Is this acceptable? Is this how the product is designed to perform?
When I used a brand new GameSaver, and used it properly according to the instructions and then go to the freezer and find one after another bag of vegetables with a visually perfect seal on both ends and air leaking into the bag and my food getting freezer burn on it, then I have to say that the bags are either defective or they are just not a very good product.
Here's the control for the argument. The GameSaver Deluxe FoodSaver GameSaver Deluxe Vacuum Sealing Kit came with an assortment of FoodSaver brand bags to get me started and probably because FoodSaver wanted it's customers to experience their brand of bags. The clincher in this review is that none of the FoodSaver brand bags in the freezer have lost their seal, only the Universal Vacuum Bags I am reviewing here.
FoodSaver brand bags do cost substantially more than these Universal Vacuum Bags, but the FoodSaver bags always work while these Universal bags do not always work. I have read the other reviews; they are what prompted me to go ahead and use these off brand bags. I guess I just don't understand how the average review is as high as it is. I have definitely found them unworthy of such praise. Maybe they used to be good and lately the quality has fallen. I don't know. All I know is after all the time, money, and work of putting up garden produce for the winter only to find the bags having seal problems, I will spring for the real-deal and buy FoodSaver brand products from now on. Just think if you put away a hog or side of beef or that seasonal venison only to find as you dig down in the freezer the bags filling with air. Maybe these bags are better suited for an actual commercial vacuum sealer like your local butcher shop uses. I don't know, but I can't afford one of those and think that the FoodSaver GameSaver sealer works fine and is properly suited for exactly what we are using it for. The Universal bags are supposed to work with this device just like the name brand bags, but they don't.
So here's my review. Take it for what it's worth; I don't review lightly. This review will be duplicated for the two rolls of 11" and 8" bags I also purchased this summer.
