Poor design, & replacement wire is unavailable and propietary - choose another
The overall design of the slicer is pretty good, but has one design flaw which I'll get to later. Here's my analysis :
1) The ends of the slicer wire are proprietary in that you can't use just any replacement wire in the product. You have to use their wire in order to engage their wire mounting system.
2) I have not been able to find additional replacement wires anywhere on Amazon, nor does the company seem to have a website from which they can be ordered.
3) The wire mounting system is flawed in that, the stainless steel wire is mounted into brass blocks that fit into slots on the device and are held in place and tensioned via machine screws. So far, so good (kind of). Here's the problem, the wire exits the block at a hard 90 degree angle which puts a great deal of stress on the wire at the point at which it enters the brass block. The stainless steel wire is brittle by nature. This is true of stainless steel in general. If you put a 90 degree crimp in stainless steel wire and then put tension on it (with the mounting screws) and then put more stress on it by cutting a medium hard cheese like Swiss or Havarti, the wire will not last more than a few slices.
Conclusion : Unless this vendor modifies its design to reduce stress on the stainless steel wire and provides reasonably priced replacements on the Amazon website, don't bother buying it.
