John Boos Maple Wood End Grain Reversible Butcher Block Cutting Board, 20"x 15" x 2.25 Inches I eyeballed this for a year. It went on sale from $185 to $125 and I jumped. I cook every day. I looked at this board for over a year. I failed to read these reviews. I’m a skeptic of reviews and this is my 2nd review ever. Let me tell you how badly disappointed I am. Not once, not twice, but three times. This is not the board for anyone. I know Boos and said do not put hot items on it. Do not let water sit on it. I’m not guilty of those. Not at all. I’ve cared for the original and TWO replacements. As soon as the cellophane wrapper came of, I instantly put Boos brand oil and let it sit overnight. Next day put Boos brand cream and let it sit overnight. Each and every board has separation between chunks of wood in random places. I suppose they are using different adhesive than from when they were making quality products. Purchased December and replaced January after three sections of separation. The replacement had separation after two weeks. "Thank you for contacting John Boos. We are sorry for the inconvenience you have encountered. It is very common for end grain boards to sometimes separate. As there is still glue visible in the glue line, continued oiling monthly with Boos Mystery Oil should allow the block to swell back up. If you do not see improvement by the end of April, please contact us and we will look into this further.” I’m not sure why they wanted me to wait but I did and there was no difference. The glue didn’t magically expand to fill in the separation nor did it magically pull the two pieces of wood together over time. On 5/2/17 I told them there was no magic. Thank you for contacting John Boos. We are sorry for the inconvenience you have encountered. I will send you another replacement board. Please confirm the size of your board as well as the complete address where I need to ship the replacement. They were backordered and would have stock 5/26/17. I asked if this was a bad batch and asked for a different board but they could not do that. During the second replacement they said "We ship thousands and thousands of boards and very rarely have issues. It is possible that the glue just did not adhere properly. I am very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.” I’m not sure exactly when in late May or June 2017 that I got my replacement, but it’s been 6 months and now the 3rd board is separating. They will send a 3rd and FINAL replacement but they are backordered for another 3 weeks. (AGAIN). Probably because they suck at life.
