Am rather disappointed with this latest kindle. As many others have already pointed out, the brightness level is not very uniform across the screen and this is very distracting when reading. The shadows on the bottom of the screen extend up to at least two lines of text on my unit. Unfortunately, amazon overhyped this product. They should have had pictures on the product page that accurately reflect what a person could expect to see when reading on this kindle. I've seen posters defend amazon's practice here: that we should expect an advertized product is always going to look better than it does in real life. Like a picture of a bowl of cereal always looks much tastier than a real bowl of cereal. But I believe that kind of reasoning is not correct in this case. We don't buy a bowl of cereal to look at it. But we do buy a kindle, or any ereader for that matter, based upon how it will look: on how well it will display text in order to enhance the reading experience. Amazon should have given its customers a more accurate idea of what to expect when reading on this device.
