This is NOT an Apple adapter - it is a cheap knockoff!
As the great Robert Heinlein was fond of saying, TANSTAAFL (there ain't no such thing as a free lunch). I didn't want to pay $80 for an Apple adapter, so I was delighted to find these fine people selling "genuine" Apple adapters for $60. I sorta wondered how they could manage to do that (Apple tightly controls the market price of their products), but I wanted to believe.
The adapter arrived working and it looked very much like a real OEM Apple adapter. All the fine print, certifications, etc. looked like my original adapter.
But after 10 months of use, it died. On a hunch, I opened it up. It was a cheap knockoff. It was easy to tell. What I saw was basically the same as what this tear down found: [...]
Note how "official" the fake on that web page looks. Well that's what you're getting here. I've attached a photo of what I found. Note the low component density and terrible soldering. It's crap.
So I paid $60 for a charger that lasted 10 months (apparently I was one of the lucky ones to have it last that long). Now I've got to suck it up and pay $80 for a real one.
$60 to learn what I already knew: TANSTAAFL, and you get what you pay for. Don't waste your money here.
Edit: For some reason this charger is $80 now - don't know if that means they are now selling actual Apple chargers or if they're just getting $20 more for their cheap knock-off. Either way I'd avoid this vendor.
