This is terrible history
Whenever an author approaches an historical topic with a preconceived conclusion in mind the reader will be poorly served. This is the case with Zinn.
By embarking on a "People's History" he commits a historical fallacy equivalent to Tunnel Vision. He leaves out much of the narrative in order to focus on his narrative. He also takes events out of context, and fabricates events to fit his narrative.
His self stated goal is to denigrate American culture, constitutional government, and economic system in order to recreate America in his own leftist image. One writer said of Zinn's work: “It is as if someone said to you, ‘Would you like to see Versailles?’ and then took you on a tour of a broken shed on the outskirts of the palace grounds. ‘You see, pretty shabby, isn’t it?’”
