Poor hook design. Poor hinge design. Should allow for testing but is stated single use.
Poor design of portion that hooks over window sill. The red end caps are very loose, and came off in a test of the assembly hanging over the window sill. This seems treacherous as the tips of the bars need to engage the window trim or sill or the ladder may fail to hold to the window. The poor connection of the grapple mechanism to the specific window I tested is a fundamental failure. A carabiner harness accessory should be available so that a lag bolted harness could attach to a wall stud and the carabiner used to secure the ladder at the window. The folding hinge should have a lock mechanism so when it opens it locks in the open position. Steps deployed easily. Was able to refold the steps relatively easily. Should come with a storage bag. The instructions state: "Warning: Kidde Escape Ladders are designed for one-time use only. Discard after single use. Repeat use may result in injury or death." It is important to be able to train with a safety ladder and these instructions prevent training unless a duplicate product is purchased. I will check out the X-IT Fire Escape Ladder next.
