Multiple product failures, inadequate customer service, internal system failures
June 27, 2017 I purchased Cuisinart CPK-17 Electric Kettle, warranted for 3 years. Cuisinart is owned by Conair Corporation. In December the unit failed to heat water, its essential function. On December 14, 2017 I spoke to Conair/Cuisinart customer service representative, Shanty, who arranged for a replacement to be provided to me, shipping via UPS. This unit was on backorder for 3 weeks, an inconvenience. Upon receipt of the replacement unit, I was asked to return the original power cord of the defective unit to Conair Corporation. I was charged a $10 fee, charged to my credit card, for this service. The replacement unit was received on January 10, 2018. The replacement unit was defective. The lid of the kettle opens by pressing a button on the handle, and it did not operate. On January 11, 2018, I contacted Conair Corporation and spoke with CSR representative Porsha. Porsha explained a replacement unit would be received in 7 to 10 business days via UPS. Additionally, UPS would pick up the second defective unit and the cord from the first defective unit. Porsha explained I would be contacted by UPS to arrange for pickup of the second defective unit and the power cord from the original defective unit. I prepared the return package and waited to be contacted by UPS. This was an inconvenience. On January 17, 2018 I received the second replacement unit. Another inconvenient issue developed when UPS delivered the package containing the replacement unit to the wrong address. After 2 phone calls with UPS, the package was delivered to my house. In the meantime, the defective item was packaged and waiting for UPS to pick up by my front door, but without any contact from UPS. I called Conair Corporation on January 18, 2018 to ask for an explanation as to why the package containing the defective products was not picked up by UPS. I spoke to CSR, Shanty, who explained I should leave the package with the defective products on my front porch and UPS would pick it up. Conair/Cuisinart’s system with UPS was not operational, but Shanty said she would make arrangements for UPS pickup before the end of her shift. The number of inconveniences from Conair were increasing. On January 25, 2018 the package containing defective products was by my front door, and had not been picked up by UPS. I called Conair Corporation and spoke to CSR, Jerome. Jerome reviewed my online file and stated the information contained therein was inadequate and much information was missing. Jerome asked me if I had been provided a “302 number”. I explained I had never discussed such a number with Conair/Cuisinart. This was a new discovery and Jerome explained this number is a “call tag” number that is printed on a label and attached to the packaged defective products for pickup by UPS. Jerome said he would email me the call tag label and I should place it on the package. UPS would pick up the package in 3 to 5 business days. On January 27, 2018 I called Conair/Cuisinart and asked for an explanation as to why I had not been emailed the call tag label. I spoke to CSR, Josie, after waiting on hold for 21 minutes. I explained the situation to Josie who needed to speak with another associate for assistance. After speaking with Josie and being placed on hold, a total of 10 minutes, I was disconnected. By now I had experienced so many inconveniences and wasted to much time with Conair, that I decided to post this review as a warning to other potential buyers. I called back again and was on hold for another 15 minutes waiting to speak with a CSR, and eventually I spoke with Josie once again. (Note: My phone number was included in Conair’s system as confirmed by Jerome, and I could have been called back by the CSR, again more disappointing service.) Josie’s associate explained to her that Conair/Cuisinart customers were not receiving emails with call tag labels, evidently another system failure. Josie stated that UPS would bring the call tag label to my house, place it on the package and take the package for delivery to Conair/Cuisinart. I should leave the package by the front door. UPS pickup service will require 3 to 5 days. The package with the defective products is now outside the front door, waiting for pickup by UPS to ship the defective products to Conair/Cuisinart. I have experienced a great deal of hassle and abysmal service trying to fulfill my obligation to Cuisinart, owned by Conair Corporation. Conair Corporation has my credit card number and it was explained to me if I failed to return the defective products, my credit card could be charged for the full price of the replacement unit. The outcome of this appalling situation remains to be seen. However, I will not purchase any more Cuisinart or Conair products in the future, and this is fair warning to other potential buyers. UPDATE: FEBRUARY 14, 2018. After several weeks, Cuisinart/Conair has not arrange for UPS to pick up the two defective productts from my doorstep. The defective products are still outside my front door. Cuisinart/Conair has evidently decided they no longer need the defective items. For this Electric Kettle, Cuisinart provided a 3 year warranty - presumably due to frequent product failures. I am not confident that the current replacement kettle will continue to work. The blue lights on the machine occasionally flash furiously, unlike the first machine that lasted 6 months. If this machine fails, I will make the choice to deal with ineffective customer service once again, or buy another and more reliable brand of electric kettle.
