it's like rambling disorganized thoughts just put on paper
When I put "full of surprises" for this review, what I really meant was surprised how this book has so many positive reviews! It is written in a very confusing first person point of view. It's so hard to understand what exactly is going on, it's like rambling disorganized thoughts just put on paper. Clearly, proofreading was not thought necessary. The first few pages are so confusing....the heroine is locked inside the beast's "estate" by a couple of jerk village boys (the reason? you have no idea) and then the beast comes and literally two sentences later he just tosses her over the gate of his "estate". No description of him (she doesn't turn to look at him, she "doesn't need to"), the beast says nothing, no reason or explanation as to why he would do that, is that a normal thing that the beast does, throw people over the fence? Maybe. You don't know. Then, not even fazed by this, she just grabs some carrots and walks to town. No biggie. Next stop, the local neighborhood rapist, aka, the baker. The heroine here witnesses the baker extort sex from the blacksmiths wife in exchange for food and she just kind of chills and watches it happen because she "wonders what they are about" and then when it's over she turns to leave and go home. Unfortunately she runs into the same two jerk village boys who trapped her inside of the "estate" earlier (who happen to be the sons of the aforementioned blacksmith's wife) and they're pissed because they somehow "sense" that the heroine saw her mom doing the dirty with the baker......and that pisses them off so they chase her! Hey, if a dude wants to rape their mom in order to get payment for bread, thats ok apparently, they just don't want anyone else to know about it! (Question.......if the heroine is just now seeing the blacksmith's wife being abused by the baker......then what the hell did the two boys lock her up in the "estate' for at the beginning of the novel? $hits and giggles?) One sentence later the heroine gives the two village boys who had been chasing her the slip and heads home, tired after a full day of being imprisoned, maybe killed by a monster, witnessing a sexual assault and chased. Phew! But wait, we're not done yet. Her biotch sister tells her she needs to go back to the "estate" to harvest some vegetables. Here we go again! Some other stuff happens, blah blah blah, and here we go, one of the village boys who hates her for a very dubious reason beats her with a branch and yet again, throws her into the "estate" to be devoured by the mysterious beast I guess (not even taking a second to ask or maybe even wonder how she escaped the estate the first time and maybe how it wouldn't work a second time...), but the beast shows up and just licks her back wounds and throws her back across the fence. Sometime later she slips out of her house to dodge the baker's unwanted pervy advances and goes for a stroll about the estate! Lo and behold, who does she encounter YET AGAIN? Why, the two jerky village boys who want to kill her, so they tie her up to a cart and roll her inside the "estate" hoping the beast will finally rid of them of her for A THIRD TIME. But the beast says nah, I'm not going to kill you and she passes out and vomits all over him. I don't blame her, by this time, I kind of wanted to vomit too. And I stopped reading soon after that. I'm so glad this was free and I didn't waste any money on it.....but those 15 minutes of my life I will sadly, never get back.
