This came with foreign AAA batteries and worked great but did not last long. I put in brand new Duracell AAA batteries that tested good but it got no power. After further investigation I discovered that the foreign batteries have a longer positive (+) pole that makes contact but the Duracell has a shorted positive (+) pole and does not make a connection to power the device. Maybe they made a mistake in the manufacturing of it and will request a replacement.
