We noticed a terrible chemical smell immediately upon opening the box and contacted the company about it. They said to plug it in let it run continuously for 24-48 hours and the chemical new parts smell would go away and that it was just "new plastic parts smell". Hmmm... Anyhow, we had this for at least a week, running continuously in the master bedroom with the door open into the rest of the home and all it did was give us all a terrible real unbearable headache. We had bought it to use in our toddlers room to help keep dust at bay, so after the week was up we did move the unit in there overnight and when we put it in there and walked into his room in the morning, the smell was so strong, I could almost gag. The smell was so more noticeable in his room is smaller, 11 x 13. Its not worth chancing his or our health another night or day of this "plastic parts" smell so we returned it promptly. Good luck to others who haven't had this issue. Ours was unbearable, and worse in a normal size room. We will just use the old fashioned wet and dry washcloth daily to keep dust out of his room, its way healthier then smelling those toxic plastic fumes.
