Great idea but has some serious design flaws
For a while, I was looking for a big enough (but space conscious) jewelry box. When I found this I thought I had found the holy grail. After reading the many reviews pointing out some problems, I decided it was still worth it. Now that I have it, I have some mixed feelings about it. I think this company really needs to consult someone who actually knows about jewelry case design, or at the very least, involve more women in the process, or take the numerous reviews seriously. So here is my review including the positives and negatives explaining why I rated this item with 2 stars. POSITIVES: 1. It is a great idea. It fits a good amount of jewelry, the materials are good quality, and it comes already preasembled. 2. The led light gives your jewelry a very jewelry store, elegant, appealing look. It is beautiful and you can leave the switch on as once you close the door, the lights turn off automatically. 3. The outer design is simple but beautiful. The mirror is good quality and once the piece is installed, it looks very elegant. 4. It is so far the biggest, yet most space concious jewelry box I have found so far. I don’t have a lot of space in my closet, and hate clutter, so it is a very practical solution that holds a good amount of jewelry. NEGATIVES: 1. The inner lay out has some regrettable design flaws. For starters, the full interior needs to be at least 3-4 inches deeper. You can’t put thick necklaces or solid bracelets in the left side bar, or any big earrings in the left door earring section because the door won’t close. I had to put there my necklace chains and my smallest necklaces; and my bigger necklaces in the inside door, which is much shorter and doesn’t have enough room for longer necklaces. This doesn’t make any sense: right now my thicker necklaces look cramped in the inner door (see picture attached). Furthermore, you can’t put any medium size necklaces on the bottom left section because it is awfully close to the little drawers on the right side, so you guessed it...the door won’t close either. 2. The ring section could be better adapted as an earring section using the same type of padding. Most people don’t have that many amount of rings. However, that section works very well for stud earring and dangles. The earring section on the left side is not very well designed either. The space in between the little rods for hook or dangle earrings is not big enough, so if you have long earrings they will be cramped on top of the rod below (see attached picture). Also, the bars for stud earrings are not easy to use: the designers could have made them detachable or slideable for ease of use. 3. The little drawers on the bottom are a great idea, but they could have had some padding at the bottom to protect the jewerly. 4. The screws to install the jewelry case on the wall are way too flimsy for an item this big and heavy. I preferred to put this piece on the wall because I didn’t want to have all my jewelry being moved all over if I installed it on the door. Having both options (door and wall mounts) is a great idea, but I recommend to use better, sturdier installation materials, particularly for the wall mount. 5. Finally, the strong odor other reviewers mention is definitely there. It is a wood glue smell. However, it didn’t bother much. I left the door opened for one day and the odor was completely gone, so this, in my opinion, is not such a big issue. I hope the designers read all these reviews and apply the changes. This jewelry box is a wonderful idea but could be significantly improved by addressing the critical (and many times mentioned) design problems. I am attaching a picture for further reference. Also I want to point out that customer care is good. The seller contacted me, thanked me for the feedback, and gave me a $20 credit.
