This is a good idea, poorly executed
I was excited to find this pump. I thought it would solve the problem of our teenagers putting gas into our personal watercraft. Because of the ridiculous placement of the fill tube, using a standard gas can requires enough strength to control 5 gallons of gasoline at shoulder height and be able to tilt the can when the watercraft fuel tank is full. I thought this pump would be the bomb! Unfortunately it was not so. There were several deficiencies in the pump. 1. The standard connection on the pump does not fit a normal 5 gallon gas can. 2. There are four different adapters that resolve this issue, but the adapters do not modify the pump, they modify the can. This means that to use the pump you must first put the adapter on the can, then screw on the pump. Which requires one to keep up with a loose adapter. 3. The supply hose is entirely too short to reach the fill opening of the watercraft. 4. This meant the can was required to be placed on the watercraft ( instead of the dock) for refueling. 5. After positioning the pump on the watercraft and activating the pump, we observed that the connection between the adapter and the pump was not positive, so gasoline was spilling out onto the watercraft. 6. I tried to tighten the connection. But it did not help. I am not sure where the leak was because I immediately abandoned the pump and put the nozzle back onto the can and completed the refueling without issue. I had a gasoline spill to deal with which took me an extra 15 minutes. 7. Even if the pump had worked flawlessly, it would still be a problem. Consider that you have a supply tube that you must insert unit a can. After completion of the refueling operation you must remove it which means you are dripping fuel from the supply tube. Even if you left the pump attached to the can until you used it again, you must extract the supply tube from one can and thread it int another. Thus operation is bound to drip gasoline onto whatever surface was used to place the cans. I am not a huge fan of dripping gasoline anywhere. My advice is to steer clear of this pump. I will be returning it because it is a hazard to both the user and the environment.
