Purchased this in August as I'm an avid canner. I have used it about six times and was happy with both the convenience and performance...until today. I was canning salsa today and while bringing the canner up to temperature, I noticed a strong smell of burning plastic. When I looked closer at the canner, I could see wisps of smoke coming from the bottom section of the canner. I immediately turned it off and unplugged it. Once it cooled and I could separate the upper and lower parts, I could see a burnt electrical wire surrounded by melting plastic. The smell was horrible and still lingers. I like the concept of the electric canner but narrowly avoiding a fire in the kitchen today will make me stick with using stove top canners. I will be returning this defective and dangerous appliance. Victoria Shelton
