Don't purchase this seat if you plan to use it long term as an eventual booster seat. I ordered this seat after doing quite a bit of research and because I was concerned that my son who is in the top 90 percentile for height might outgrow the height limits on other model seats. This is also what steered me to the Pacifica as I had seen reviews on the almost identical Radian car seat indicating that taller kids could have their shoulders bump into the head protectors before they had really outgrown the seat. After ordering the seat I started looking through reviews and found something that bothered me... a lot. This seat was placed in the "do not use" category along with only one other seat by the International Institute for Highway Safety organization. This is pretty bad considering that they tested something like 60 booster seats. To summarize what IIHS found, basically when using this seat as a booster seat the seatbelt will touch the head/face/neck area of a child and cannot be repositioned. They typically try in several vehicles so it must have been a prevalent problem for them to specifically call this seat out. The risk of having the seat belt positioned this way is that in the event of a crash it is possible (likely?) that the seatbelt being in this position can cause head, neck or spinal injuries. I'm actually surprised based on this that Diono has not already recalled these seats or offered a refit kit to allow the belt to be repositioned. I guess that the safety of their customers children is really not that important to them. I'm now looking for a different brand car seat although in fairness other model Diono seats did get the "good fit" or "best fit" recommendation from IHS. I'm primarily steamed that Diono has not said a word about this problem which was discovered by IHS in November of 2014.
