2nd coffee maker dies within a year and HB SUPPORT IS CR@P
Will keep it short as I am irate at this point and don't want to spoil your mood:
When this coffee maker works its fine. However, we seriously doubt the quality controls at Hamilton Beach and more so, we detest their lack of customer centric support.
The first one died within 6 months. First the timer stopped working. Then the power button stopped working.
We didn't check the warranty and figured it was just bad luck and we went out and bought another via Amazon.
3 months later this one died. It simply wouldn't switch on anymore.
This time we checked the warranty and figured we could call them to get a new one.
Here is the trick with that: they make it really hard to get a new one. Kinda like insurance companies putting in fine print to ensure there is no payout. That, by itself, should be a deterrent for buying.
They make you try and read the melted/ stamped bottom and that is sheer impossible. I could not read it to the rep and even sent a 13mp photo to them to read for themselves which they couldn't. When I finally offered to hold a current news paper next to it with a sign reading" it's really me" the rep gave in and asked me to take photo's of the plug cut from the cord and email it to them.
HOWEVER, BEFORE THEY DID THAT THEY ASKED ME TO PAY 11$. That is where they go dirty: regardless of whether they send the item they keep the 11$. So if they then come back and say your photos are rejected, you are still SOL and need to file a creditcard claim which they will win due to the fine print stating you are paying them 11$ for the sheer awesomeness of getting their support on the phone.
Anyhow, fast forward 2 weeks: no response anymore to any of the emails with the case number and the photos. They simply went on mute. Absolutely ridiculous, Hamilton Beeatch.
Ipso Facto
So here is what I recommend: it's a good coffee maker when it works but myluck was suspiciously short lived x 2. And when you need their client service, despite warranty, they will make it heart attack level tough to get that replacement. So DO NOT buy this online, but rather in a store that offers the 10 or 15$ 2 year no questions replacement. You will get the value out of that as this thing is possibly going to fail and you can avoid dealing with HB-BS.
Good luck.
We moved on to a Presto 02811 and due to its simplicity we love that, HB lost a customer and we don't care. Hope we warned you sufficiently as companies that treat customers like suspects in a line up and then hit the ignore button deserve no ones' business.
PS: yeah, I do dislike them this much, given their utter lack of customer care let alone service. It should be called the HB Customers we-don't-care plan.
