A worse version of the D3300
Here is the deal... this camera is effectively identical to the D3300 with some negatives compared to it and some theoretical positives. It has a worse flash which is how it gets your more battery life... call that a tradeoff based on what you prefer. It does NOT have an ultrasonic sensor cleaner which is a major downgrade for a beginner camera. The really only major [theoretical] positive is the Bluetooth. It has some issues staying connected which is annoying but not a dealbreaker... the HUGE deal that isn't on the website or within the specs anywhere... you can't transfer full-size images via bluetooth!! Only 2MB.
I bought this camera over the D3300 despite it being more expensive and having equal to maybe lesser features all because I thought man... I will auto transfer to my iPad which syncs full-size images to Google Photos and BAM I have everything backed up and a great photo management setup. That idea is literally what sold me. But the reality is that it will only sync those tiny 2mb photos so you are back to the stone ages... in fact, you are worse off than the D3300 with the WiFi adapter which can do full-size.
The camera is fine and takes great photos. But there is literally no reason to purchase the D3400 instead of the D3300 which has the same to better specs.
