The pet door kept failing while in auto mode, and when I called Customer Service and explained the issue, I was informed the pet door doesn't work on metal doors or near appliances (i.e. a washer/dryer within 5 feet) as they cause interference with the radio signal that operates it. Not only did we have both, but these days how many back doors are made of anything other than a metal medium of some sort. Plus the fact we placed it in the mud room, (yes, right next to the washer & dryer) this was set to fail from the beginning but no where in the ads nor instructions did it give this warning, and of course we didn't notice these issue until it after the time allowed for returning the item. Once we noticed the issue we were forced to remove & replace the ENTIRE door, not just the dog door, reverting us back to 'square one' since leaving it would allow any animal, as well as any person small enough to fit through it, access into our home causing a serious safety risk. If we wanted that we would've just left the door wide open for the pups. Since then we have moved and, because we still have the pet door as well as the door it was installed in, we decided we will try it once more. If it being in a metal door, we will soon find out. At least it won't cost us another new door. 🤞
