I bought this planer and it came in with a cracked base. Ok it happenes. I rotated the handle and it seemed hard to turn I returned it to Amazon and they sent out planer #2. It showed up with a worse crack than the first one. The planer was also very difficult to move up and down. I planed a board and the knife had a chip right out the box. I sent the second planer backback. I got my third planer in. no damage and the head moves up and down very smoothly. It planes great and the finish is really good. The planer, now that I got one not damaged, seems to work great. But I have only used it once so far. I blame Amazon and ups for the damaged products. But also I blame dewalt. This is a common problem it seems and they should pack the equipment better. If you get one and the handle is hard to turn send it back it's damaged
