Cost effective and highly recommend as long as you know the following...
We used this to have a simple cleanup while tailgating. It took 45 minutes to get the charcoals warm enough to cook, involving using all of the lighter fluid in my grill lighter and the entire cardboard box this disposable grill came in to generate enough consistent heat for the charcoal to get hot enough to cook an egg.
I would buy it again now that I know what I need to do to make it work, so I'd urge you to hear my advice before buying/using. It's a very cost-effective disposable grill and does the job, IF YOU KNOW BEFOREHAND:
1. The charcoals are sandwiched between two very flammable pieces of what's basically tissue paper. The directions say to light the paper and that will light the coals. It doesn't. After lighting the tissue paper, you get a flash-flame which is gone in 15 seconds - not near enough time for the coals to stay lit and build enough heat to cook or even slightly warm food.
2. It says not to use a fire starter brick or charcoal lighter fluid. I understand them saying this because lighter fluid can be hazardous, but in my opinion there is no way to light this grill without adding some sort of slow-burning material or holding a torch to the coals for an extended period of time.
RECOMMENDATION:
- Take the top grate off the grill
- Put all the charcoals to one end and add balls of paper/cardboard/charcoal starter cubes that will stay lit for an extended period of time
- Wrap the charcoals and paper balls/cardboard/starter cubes in the included tissue paper, then light.
The charcoals need to stay together to build heat. Leaving them spread out on the bottom with tissue paper will not lead to a successful grilling experience. I wish someone would have told me all this before it was game-day and I had minimal resources to make this disposable grill less stressful and time-consuming!
