Buy A Roomba Instead
OK, so first off I had a Roomba that was outdated and when I first bought it, it was a difficult decision to go with either iRobot or Neato products. This time, I watched a ton of different videos and thought that the Neato product might be superior when compared side by side. So I bought one. Please note I owned the Neato for 6 months only. I owned my original Roomba for 2 years before trying the Neato.
Never Again Will I Buy A Neato!
So I bought the D7 refurbished and from day one I knew it was a mistake, but I decided to live with it and give it a fair shake. Truth be Told, it was bad in these areas.
1) It didn't fit under my sofa when vacuuming like the Roomba did, so it got stuck.
2) Roomba easily went over the floor heating grids, Neato got stuck always. Had to cover those vents to get it to work.
3) Roomba was easier to clean. I could leave the dirt in the container for several weeks before cleaning it out (only use it once a week). Neato had to be cleaned more often.
4) Roomba required less maintenance, never stopped working. This is where I really parted ways with the Neato. One day I set the Neato up and it came out of its charger and then just stopped. I couldn't figure out what was going on. Seems that the main roller on the bottom had become stuck....I mean really stuck like I couldn't turn it. I got out the cleaning tool and removed all the debris, cat hair, etc. and put it back on the ground and it ran. On the very NEXT cleaning, it did it again. And I mean I cleaned this thing top to bottom, taking up a ton of my time, and the next run it happened again. Who has time for this? Not me! That's the reason I bought the robot to cut down on time so I can do more important things. Now they were really losing me. I never had this issue with the Roomba.
5) The Neato app is useless. Oh, it seemed pretty cool at first. I could set "No Go Lines" which I wanted to use for the heat vents above, so I set them and it was good for a minute until I had to update the software on the Neato. Then all the "No Go Lines" were gone and I had to reset them. Do you know how much time it took for me to set those lines the first time? AN HOUR! Mostly because the vent is a small space, but even on bigger lines, it was not so easy.
So imagine you download the new Neato software for the robot, check your app and all those lines are gone. I did three updates and this happened every time. Who has time to reset these things?
6) Then another software kicker...this time the app itself. Every update of the app not only lost the lines, but also disconnected me from using the Neato altogether, and disconnected me from Alexa. I thought "How cool! I can use Alexa to turn on my Neato to clean." Yeah, ONCE! But update the app and you get disconnected from Alexa and .....
wait for it...... the Neato itself. YUP, that's right. I had to completely redo the set up for the Neato on the app Every Time. It couldn't connect to my robot. It couldn't find my robot. There was NO ROBOT!
7) The final straw, I downloaded a new app software AND upgraded the Neato Software. OK, ok, I'll redo the robot again and hook it up to wifi....again. NOPE! There was no connection to Wifi. You're supposed to look at your wifi connection on your phone or tablet, click on where it says Neato, and then follow through to hook it up. There was no Neato connection to click on my wifi. And I did everything. It simply wasn't there. That's when I contacted Neato for the last time.
8) Customer Service Sucks! Can you at least help me here? Took them two days to contact me, and in the meantime I'm sneezing my head off because of cat dander. "I'm sorry, the warranty on refurbished models is 90 days."
Alrighty, Then.
9) I order the new Roomba i7, get it sent overnight and it arrives ahead of time, set up is a breeze, app works first time, connection to Alexa and wifi works immediately. I let it charge, run it once, it cleans my floor twice with a recharge in the middle, and when it's done I push a button on the app and the dirt container cleans itself.
Now THAT is a Robot!
Need I say more?
Get a Roomba i7. Neato is cheaper but you will regret it. Pay for the quality and longevity.
OK, rant over. I hope this helps.
