Poor quality and a safety risk.
As a nurse practitioner student, I wanted to love this product. I've practiced the last several months in the lab and thought it would be fun to look at my fiance's ears. This otoscope is blurry at best, only the canal can be visualized. I had to place the scope's speculum 1/2 cm away from my finger to be able to see my fingerprint! Any good scope should be able to visualize that a few cm away. Think about it - your speculum would have to be 1/2 cm away from your child or loved one's tympanic membrane... So dangerous!
I've tried on multiple people with different sized speculas and can never see a clear picture of the tympanic membrane and any other landmarks. The ear wax in the canal is crystal clear, but if you want to look at the tympanic membrane to determine if there is an infection or fluid, you won't be able to do so.
Returning this scope and hoping this will warn others - despite all the rave reviews. I went back to read through the reviews and noticed that many did not have anything to compare this scope to. I 100% can tell you that this is not what you should see. Perhaps I got a fluke otoscope, but you should not have to push the speculum that far into the canal to get a clear view of the membrane. It is dangerous and especially risky to do so with children. I would recommend splurging on a higher quality scope or leaving it to a provider... If you must, please have your provider train you on how to properly brace the scope to minimize puncturing the membrane. I fear this product is a safety risk as you have to push the scope in pretty far to get a clear view (which I was even scared to do with the pediatric size speculum on an adult).
