Liquid vitamin E is better. Snout Soother caused anal leakage.
Update 12/3/2020: So, it's been more than two years after I tried this product. Since then pup has had several different foods, chewed many bones even cow hoof and buffalo horn, eaten many different dog treats, and guess what... still no butt leakage. I appreciate the concerned commentor who doubted my review since I didn't conduct a double blind study in order to review this product, but I stand by my conclusion. This product did not work for my dog and caused his butt to leak, but clearly it worked for others.
I'll start with my recommendation for a product to help with a dry nose. The vet recommended LIQUID VITAMIN E to apply to the nose, which we found at a standard vitamin store. The consistency (warm syrup thickness) is much nicer to apply to the nose than the tin, and it is truly scent free. A couple licks after application, but no fussing after that.
Now for my review of Snout Soother. I was drawn toward the fragrance free fact. When it arrived I found that it had a very strong herbal smell. I guess the "fragrance free" means no added fragrance, but the herbal smell was quite strong and seemed to encourage licking. After two weeks of use it made his nose softer, but only if I applied the cream regularly. When we stopped, his nose became dry immediately. I also noticed that the constant licking and ingesting of the cream started to effect his bowels. He started to experience anal leakage and has been very stinky since.
We've been off of the cream for a week and switched to using the vitamin E. After a couple days of the vitamin E his nose is staying moist longer and is showing significant progress toward healing.
