★☆☆☆☆
Self-glorifying, repetitive, and clearly not a fan of anything American.
While it is clear that Lady Colin Campbell has been around a long time as a royal observer, and some of her theories explaining the behavior of Harry and Meghan may be correct to a greater or lesser degree, the book gets bogged down with her extreme disdain for anything American. She repeatedly harps on about how Americans adore Meghan and love what she does, and how unprepared Americans are to understand why what Meghan is doing is so distasteful. Her broad generalizations about Americans and our beliefs and values is so denigrating and so repetitive that it becomes a distraction. She also is quick to glorify her own credentials as a royal observer at every turn, which also detracts from the book. Thirdly, she pads the book with page upon page (chapter upon chapter) of analysis of the behavior of Harry, Meghan, and Diana. We get it. She hated Diana, she hates Meghan, and she thinks Harry was spoiled by Diana. And there is likely some truth in her evaluations, but again and again we hear the same analysis put into slightly different context to the point where I was flipping pages just to be done with them. Is this a good read? The book has a few merits, but know what you will be getting into before you buy.
