Horrific after-effects
I began using this product around November 2011 and LOVED it! It was so easy to use, I loved the color it gave me, and it saved me tons of money because I didn't have to visit the salon! I went from November to February without highlighting my hair. And then...my hair started FALLING OUT!
I first noticed the breakage after my first highlight in the salon during the use of this product. It was right before my wedding so I absolutely freaked out. I have long blonde hair that I've worked really hard to grow out and my wet hair was stretching out and breaking mid-shaft, about 2 inches from the root. And it wasn't any ordinary breakage - the hair bounced back and ended up winding back all kinky and destroyed and DOES NOT blend in with my other hair so it's impossible to hide. I blamed my hairstylist for all of this. I had to cut off the broken ends because they were ruined, as if they had been singed or burned. So I got a mullet. 2 weeks before my wedding. And the broken parts from then are still not grown out.
I stopped using the go blonder spray after that and I changed up my shampoo but I did cheat maybe once and use the spray about 4 weeks after my highlight debacle. Then I went to a completely different, super-expensive fancy salon and told them to take my hair darker because I had had some breakage after my last highlight and I didn't want it to be bleached out anymore. Low and behold, after dying my hair with darker hair color, the breakage began happening en masse. This was worse than the first time - it MELTED away in my hands. I could take the strands of my hair and stretch them like rubber bands. I went to a hair specialist and told him what had happened and he informed me that the Go Blonder Spray was the problem. It had stripped my hair of not only the pigment, but all of the protein as well. There is nothing left of the hair that I used it on. It is an empty, dead shaft of a follicle and he told me what hasn't fallen out will eventually fall out. I look like a complete idiot with big chunks of hair missing and I have to use pins to hold it back every day. I have a long way to go and probably will not be able to use color of any kind on my hair until the areas I used the Go Blonder spray have completely grown out.
I just came to Amazon to see all of these other people are having exactly the same problem. Which makes me feel better because I was worried I had some sort of vitamin deficiency, but it also makes me feel worse because before I used this product all of the Amazon reviews were good. I guess time DID tell what actually happens. Unbelievable that this product has obviously not been tested!! It should be recalled immediately! Please heed this warning and don't use it!
