Don't do it if you have great credit or pay your credit card bills in full ...
Don't bother if you have great credit and pay your credit card bills in full each month. My husband and I are doctors and have excellent credit (over 840) and are in the higher income bracket. We spend tens of thousands of dollars on Amazon on personal and business related items each year and shop at Wholefoods at least twice each week spending at least $300 per week there. It made perfect sense to apply for this card at get a little back for all the money we spend with these companies. What a mistake and waste of time and nerves! Chase who handles this Amazon card does not want successful and responsible customers like us since they can not make enough money on interest on us since we pay our cards in full each month, which they can see when they check our credit history. They want their customers to incur interest by not paying the entire credit card balance due. If you pay in full, by giving you 5% back on purchases, we assume they make no money or lose money. As such, they tried every trick possible to deny us this card. 1st, they told us they suspect fraudulent activity by someone applying in our name, then we called to verify that it was us. When we did, they asked us a million questions which we answered correctly and they still stated that due to security reasons we need to fax or mail our ID's to them. If this is about security, such request seems counter productive and rather unsafe, so we offered to ID ourselves by going into a Chase branch. When we did, the Chase manger faxed our IDs to them and they verified that they received them sating the cards will be on their way. Then about a week later they sent us a letter stating that again they were not able to verify our identification and therefore we were declined the credit card. When we called them to ask why, the representatives once again in the Philippines (surprise surprises) , stated that due to security reasons they can not tell us why we were declined. Really?! We gave you all our information including Social, Dr. Lic and answered all security questions only we could know and even went into the Chase branch to have a live person ID us and you still can not ID us and won't even tell us why we were declined??! What a joke and scam! We had a friend of ours who has similar credit and earning/paying profile and they gave him the same exact false reasons and run around and declined him. Mind you we all have other credit cards with limits most other people would have a very hard time getting, yet Amazon and Chase do not want to grant us this card. If you do a little research online, there are tons of other people like us being discriminated by Chase for the same reasons. We complained to Amazon about Chase's tactics, but they did nothing. We are furious about this and are seriously thinking of taking legal action about Chase's conduct and and after being loyal Amazon and Wholefoods customers for many years are thinking of not supporting them any more if they chose to work with such shady companies like Chase.
