Faulty firmware or hardware limits this modem to 500Mpbs down/41Mbps up on 1Gig Xfinity internet
Purchased this modem after upgrading my internet service through Xfinity to 1 gigabit internet which is rated to provide at the top end about 970 Mbps down. From the first bootup of the modem, I only received about 300Mbps down and about 30Mbps up. The highest I ever managed to get was 477.97Mbps down and 41.77Mbps up as recorded on July 4th at 1:44AM CST when traffic on the shared internet connection was lowest.
I eventually managed to confirm that this is a known issue via the numerous Netgear forum support posts about slow internet on this modem model specifically (Affects all Netgear CM1000 series modems). There is currently no documented solution. I even tried manually changing the starting scan frequency in the modem settings, but this did not change the speeds being recorded.
