SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE... BUY A NEATO!
JUNK. I should have done more research... I hated this. I really only researched the different Roombas. I got this one, because I wanted to make my life easier. Busy mom, large house... floor cleaning was consuming my LIFE. Decided on the 980, after reading reviews, and comparing the models. Wanted the app feature, and for it to continue cleaning until the job was done. It NEVER completed my main level of my home. NOT ONCE. Set it up... okay, that was easy. Except, IT ALWAYS had to be reset to my network. Had to do this by "creating" a new Roomba profile, each time, and re-registering it on my WiFi network. Then?? It just bounced around. Didn't learn anything about my house, in the week I tried daily cleanings. When it actually WOULD make it back to the dock, it would recharge, and keep going... until it got lost and died. When you return physically have to return it back, and recharge, it does NOT go back to where it died... In fact, it doesn't go back at all. It senses that its job is complete, and you have to manually restart it. When you do? It starts the entire cycle, all over again. Never made it to the back of my house... not once. Base was in a good spot. Tried EVERYTHING. There was zero rhyme or reason to this thing. Suction power, and the automatic carpet boost, were the ONLY things it had going for it. Never sent me notifications, you can't control it from the phone, the app just seemed worthless. After a couple days of struggling, I decided to buy the comparable Neato model. CHEAPER, by quite a bit. Comes with more cleaning brushes, and a tool to clean out the bristles. It is square, so it actually gets in every corner. Set it up... easy as the Roomba. But this one?? NEVER loses my WiFi network, you can physically control it from your phone, notifies me of its status... etc. ZERO glitches. The thing is so methodical. It gets all but a small portion of my downstairs done, in one charge. Goes back, charges, and completes the last area... it is done shortly after I get home. I had both of them programmed to start at 3pm, and the Roomba was never CLOSE to being done 10pm. The Neato is done by 6pm. It makes perimeters, then goes back and forth, until that area is clean... makes a new perimeter, and repeats. You can literally see where its been. It doesn't bounce around, or change paths. It knows doorways, so when it finishes the perimeter it's on, it goes straight to that doorway, to map out the next room. I would have NEVER put the Roomba upstairs, for fear that it would lose the mapping of the downstairs (like it would ever get the layout, anyway). Set the Neato upstairs, by the gate at the top of my stairs. It had the ENTIRE thing done, in like 45 minutes. You could see the patterns, in the carpet. It was beautiful. I watched it... it found a door, finished cleaning the area it was working on, and b-lined it straight to that door, and mapped out a new area. When it was all done??? It went back to where I pushed start, shut off, and sent me a text.. "I'm finished cleaning, now." YUP! It knew it was on another floor, and wasn't going to search for all eternity to find its base. Totally didn't even phase it. Coolest invention. In all... Roomba should step up its game. I was going to try it out, and debate buying a second one, for the occasional upstairs cleaning. However, now I will just carry my less expensive Neato up there, once a week, and let it go to town. I will never recommend a Roomba product... ever. Provided a photo of my Neato, cleaning around the Roomba, for humor.
