X300 has great sound but I updated my review and will be returning the speaker
I'll try and keep this short, WOW. massive sound from such a tiny device. A little background on me, I'm a Bluetooth speaker junkie, I'm serious when I tell you I had and returned about every speaker out there. I currently have a UE Boom and a Bose Soundlink Mini. The UE Boom was my go to speaker because of the water resistance and clarity of sound, yes it could use a little more base response, but still a fantastic outdoor by the pool or party speaker. The Bose is a good desk/kitchen speaker, contrary to the thousands of positive reviews I think the base is a little strong and artificial, every song I play has booming base even if the song doesn't require that much base, but for me it's quality built, (with a consumer replaceable battery) and sounded good enough to keep.
Now to the X300, again WOW!! what a sound signature from such a tiny device, great highs and mids, and the base response is much more accurate. Believe me if nothing changes it's a keeper and the speaker I'll grab for the patio when HUGE volume is not needed, like on the table with a few friends, a pool party will require a UE Boom or two, but how often do you need such loudness ?. NOW for the few cons (and I'm nitpicking). The instruction manual is vary scarce with info. Yes the bluetooth pairing is simple, but is there a way to tell battery level? Is has a light when it's on but will that tell me the battery level? Can't find it ANYWHERE, not even on the web, probably because it's so new. I have sent an email to Logitech but as of the time of this review I have not heard back, so if anyone has the answer let me know. AND this was almost a deal breaker for me is the pathetic 5 hours of battery life at half volume, at half volume it's too low so you almost have to crank it up to 80-100%, and at that level you might get a few hours of battery life. For me it's ok since while in the house or on the deck I have access to power, if I need long battery life I'll just grab the UE Boom. The X300just sounds so clean, I think it's a keeper and will probably buy a few more for family members, @ $59.00 it's a no-brainer!!! Oh, I did have the UE Mini Boom and compared to the X300 it sounded muddy with less base, but it does have 10hours of battery life, COME ON LOGITECH, I'll would pay a few more dollars for you to at least match the UE Mini Boom's battery life of 10 hours!
A final note about me, I don't write reviews unless I either love or hate, the product, for what it is, I love the X300 and I think you will also, unless your expectations exceeds the speakers capabilities, I hope this review helps. I'll update this review if anything changes.
I took away one star because of the pathetic battery life, unacceptable to me.
***** UPDATE *****
After using this speaker for a complete day I'm still impressed with the sound this little speaker delivers. But what I thought wasn't going to be a deal breaker for me might force me to return it. At 80% volume the battery only lasted a little over 2 hours !! Yes I'm near a plug most of the time but having to plug it in takes away the portability factor of a "portable" speaker. I'm very very disappointed with Logitech, what would adding another battery cost?? If this speaker had the same 10hr battery life as the UE Mini Boom it would have been a grand slam for Logitech instead it's only a double at best. I guess I'll just stay with my UE Boom and Bose Sound Link Mini until a company realizes that battery life is as important as sound and build quality, and manufactures a speaker like the X300 with at least a useable and respectable battery life. Logitech, you could have had a winner here.
