These are UV not blue blocking and don't help with computer monitors. The light demo is a trick.
Just bought these and tested them.
In summary: do not buy: they are very typical UV blocking off-the-shelf quality reading glasses. They do absolutely no good in blocking blue light or UV radiation from computers or phones. They do block UV from sunlight - but sunglasses would be a much better choice for that.
Recommend: do not buy. If you need reading correction, get good reading glasses. If you work outside where UV is an issue, get sunglasses with UV protection. If you are sensitive to blue light from phones or monitors, use the blue correction feature built into your Apple, Android or Windows device or go to justgetflux.com for a demo from your windows PC. To reduce fatigue, 1) adjust your monitor and room lighting, 2) adjust your text size and resolution to be comfortable and 3) take breaks regularly where you move and look at different distances.
Let's clarify what these glasses do.
- sharpen - if you need correction for reading distances. But these are cheap glasses and do not do nearly as good a job for reading fatigue as one prescribed by your eye doctor.
- antiglare - which is only glare from the glasses themselves. So if you don't wear the glasses, you won't have glare to begin with. And as most glasses have this it's not really a benefit.
- remove "harmful blue light" and UV400. This is very misleading. These glasses do nothing for computer and phone monitors. Let's explain.
These glasses are UV blocking but do not significantly block blue and definitely don't help with computer monitors. Their demo is a trick.
The demo uses a fluorescent card trick. They compare how a test card looks before and after shining a UV light through the glasses. Since the glasses block UV, they block the UV from reaching the card and fluorescing. BUT if you wear the glasses, you'll notice the card still looks bright when shining the light. This is because the UV from the light hits the card causing UV to be converted to visible light and so blue-white light is then able to get through the glasses to your eyes.
UV radiation is radiation that is 400 nm and higher. Visible light is from about 400 nm to 700 nm. Blue light is about 400 nm to 450 nm. These glasses do block radiation at 400 nm and higher so they do block UV radiation. However, they do not significantly block blue light or any other light from 400 nm to 700 nm. That is why the glasses look clear.
Furthermore, computer and phone displays do not emit UV radiation or blue light near 400 nm. Their blue is much different. So these glasses do not change the light from computers or phones to any significant degree.
Bottom line: these are UV blocking glasses and don't significantly block visible light. These glasses do not block the light from computer monitors. The manufacturer uses a fluorescence trick to make it seem like the glasses block visible blue light which is not true.
A word on blue light. There are two issues: UV damage and circadian rhythm. Computer and phone displays do not give off UV or any "damaging blue light" so that's not an issue. UV largely is an issue from sunlight. Computers and phones can display white similar to light bulbs - at daylight, softwhite or brightwhite colors. Some find daylight type white that is the default with computers and phones upsets their circadian rhythm leading to sleep issues. Apple, Android and Windows all include features to warm up the color of your display making it more like soft white if you find this helpful. People generally don't use daylight bulbs in their homes as they find them unpleasant. In the evening, softwhite is more commonly used around the home for this same reason.
