This rain gauge is a quality product ... fit, finish, durability, etc. But it has shortcomings that lead to significant inconvenience. If you live in an area where rainfall amounts may exceed 1" in a 24 hour period, you must engage in a tedious process of decanting the water from the outer cylinder into the smaller interior cylinder, hoping not to spill any in the process. This is hardly an accurate manner to measure rainfall. Surface tension on all the various surfaces degrades accuracy. I would politely suggest that if the outer cylinder had graduated markings, just as the inner cylinder, no decanting would be necessary. Other reviewers have commented on the frustration of using this rain gauge. I wish I had heeded their comments. This device is very frustrating to use where I live in the Pacific Northwest. Rainfall often exceeds an inch or more overnight. One must be skillful in pouring water from one vessel to another. I do not know if Stratus or whoever manufactures this rain gauge reads reviews, but I would encourage them to do so. Until the design flaw, heretofore, identified is addressed, I would never purchase another one of their devices.
