Product has to be 10 ft from an obstruction or object if possible. The cord it only about 8', so I had to find an extension cord. You are required to take an outside sample to compare an inside sample. The envelope containing the sample kits says they will not process an interior sample without an exterior to compare. My problem was that you are required to pay $35 PER SAMPLE TEST, not for an entire order. So at the MINNIMUM it costs $70 additional to the product, for testing in 1 one room. I paid $75 for the tester, and I expected to pay $35 to have all of my samples tested. I could have paid a professional to come test for me for the price I paid to wait at least a week for results. It was $225 for me to test 2 rooms and one surface swab. Not worth it for me.
