Ignores the facts of history to make it seem like we ever stopped breaking up monopolies
Hawley makes a good point that social media companies have too much influence, and that their algorithms create dangerous echo chambers. But only in that he also saw The Social Dilemma. What's worse is that he picks and chooses choice quotes from either Roosevelt and Wilson to make it seem like we lost a golden age of trust-busting when a cursory glance at all of the 20th century disproves it. He conveniently forgets to mention major anti-trust legislation since, ya know, the 1920s, to make it seem like the only way we can prevent monopolies is to give him and his ilk more political power. And to take attention off this poorly-researched, slapped together, extremely biased, and downright dishonest book for one moment and onto Hawley himself: speaking as a resident of the state of Missouri, the last thing we all want is for people like Josh Hawley to have more political power. His actions leading up to the January 6th riot and on the Senate floor pushing the Big Lie prove that. His political strategy is to stay a public talking point by creating controversy, because no press is bad press. Right out of Trump's playbook. Do not buy this book. Do the best thing you can for my state, and the whole country of the United States: forget about Josh Hawley. Let him fade into an unpleasant memory.
