Horrible writing -- apparent in the first paragraph
Swayed by the large number of 5-star reviews, I downloaded this book last night. But when I read the first paragraph, I thought, "Uh-oh. This does not look promising." As I read through the first few chapters, my suspicions were confirmed: This book is awful. The plot concept may be creative, but the prose is awkward and amateurish, and the "science" is laughable. As another reviewer stated, it reads like a high school creative-writing assignment. The author credits several proofreaders in the acknowledgements, but what he needed was a good editor, who might have been able to salvage this mess. As for the thousands of positive reviews, well, I think that shows just how far our standards for good writing have fallen. I hate that I wasted $3.99 on this book, but I'll be deleting it from my Kindle. And I learned a valuable lesson: Never buy a book without downloading a sample first. Life is too short to read terrible books.
