If you loved the books, forget that you loved those books, this is a rewrite.
I understand that in the stories, this is the time period that not much happens, so it seems like the perfect spot to add to the story. With Wheel of Time, I guess it could be justified that the story that they decided to make into the live action series is not the same turning of the wheel as told in the books, that is why it is different. Here it is like they are hoping that the readers of the books are going to forget that Galadriel was married to Celeborn more than 400 years before the death of Finrod. Are we also to forget that her daughter marries Elron, of course that is still just over a hundred years after Sauron is defeated and Isildur takes the ring, however, by the creation of the rings, Celebrian (Galadriel's daughter) is already over a thousand years old. Why don't we see her? Assuming the series finishes with the defeat of Sauron, Celeborn is quite important to the story, though admittingly not as important as Galadriel, but still where is he, and where is Celebrian? I know that there is a huge host of other characters that for practicality are cut, it just seems that some of the most important characters to our central character would be included in the story. It actually seems like what they are doing with Galadriel would have worked better with Celebrian at this point in the story especially since we know so little of what she was doing opposed to her parents that we know quite a bit about their travels. As a fan, I am disappointed with the rewrite, and I think this is where myself as many others have an issue. This is not a story set in the Tolkien universe, this is a rewrite. It would be better if they focused on lesser-known characters, or flat out invented all new characters that have little interaction at all with the main characters. This way they could have acknowledged the main story and told stories of heroes that never made it into the legends. Throughout history there are heroes that perform great feats that are overshadowed by the contemporaries of their time. With this, they could have done that, tell new tales and received less fan backlash. This show could have had another female hero, and we would probably accept it better. Choosing such a well-known and read character I think was a big mistake. Especially since we know that she lives to a very old age after the destruction of the One Ring. There is no drama. We are never going to worry about her.
