An excellent crib with 2 minor drawbacks.
Well, the idea seems good: An acrylic crib that doesn't have the same "prison bars" look and feel as 98% of the other cribs out there. The execution, however, has 2 minor drawbacks:
1. It costs $4,500. What is going on with THAT? I mean, is this a tad bit of a ludicrous mark up? If you do a little research, you could source the acrylic and get someone to custom make it for you for a LOT less. I mean seriously...it's a box with a single shelf in it. That's 5 pieces of acrylic. You can buy sheets of Lexan on here that are 24x48 at 1/2 inch thickness for $42.67 with $16.10 for shipping (https://www.amazon.com/Lexan-Sheet-Polycarbonate-Thick-Nominal/dp/B00520AR9C/ref=lp_3038695011_1_1?srs=3038695011&ie=UTF8&qid=1466052321&sr=8-1). That's $58.77 with delivery, and for 5 sheets you run up a whopping $293.85. That's admittedly not quite the size Lexan sheets you want, seeing that your average crib mattress is around 27.5 x 5 x 52 inches, but still. Even if you double the price of materials, you're around $600. Add a free-range, non-GMO, gluten free, hypoallergenic, anti-bacterial, anti-dust mite, anti-mold and anti-mildew, cruelty-free, dolphin-safe crib mattress for $400 and you're at $1,000. Add another $1,000 for a McDonalds employee to draw up the plans on a napkin while you're eating your McNuggets (it's a box with a shelf; not a whole lot of planning required) and then build it. Being crazy with the math, you could source and build one of these for $2,000, and that's including the mattress, construction, and even sharing some McNuggets with the McDesigner.
Why is this crib $4,500?
2. It's $4,500. Now I know that's technically the same point, but it's such a HUGE point, it was worth mentioning twice. I mean, $4,500 is a LOT of McNuggets. Like "enough to buy a McNugget for every single person in Fergus Falls, Minnesota" a lot.
If you're thinking about buying a $4,500 crib, think of all the starving people of Fergus Falls.
Don't let them down.
