NOT the same CM-88 General scriber sold a decade ago!
I own an engineering business and have been using the CM-88 General carbide scribers in construction and maintenance for decades. The General scribers were well made until they outsourced them to China. If you look closely, the pictures on the Amazon page show two different scribers. The one in the package is produced in China. It has an altered part number(88CM) and is absolute junk. The machining is poor, enough so that the points fall right out of the chuck. We voiced our complaints directly to the uninterested staff at General, who reluctantly replaced all of our defective units with a box of new ones. All of the replacements were just as bad, and we ended up tossing the whole lot. We now use Starrett scribers, which are more expensive, but are well made and they work.
