While Crisco is not so great on the Squirrel's feet for many reasons, I had to come to realize I was either feeding the community of squirrels or the birds. Plus they are tearing up my bird feeder. With that said, I listened to other reviewers and bought a can of Crisco and greased the pole and the part of the dome (wide part) all the way around, and this made it squirrel proof. Pole is too slick to climb up and hold position to grab the dome. Plus the dome is too slick to hold on. Will have to reapply every so often, but it works. Maybe through repetition of no success in making it to the bird feeder, they will quit trying and therefore stop getting grease on their paws. See ya Mr. Squirrel!
