Disappointed in this year's version
Very disappointed in this year's version of Turbo Tax Deluxe. At first I was skeptical of the early reviews that gave 1 star ratings complaining how the Deluxe version had been dumbed down. I still purchased it, but those reviews were correct. The following quote is from the TT Help forums. "The Deluxe edition for tax year 2014 has changed from prior years. It no longer includes Schedule C, D, E or F." If you try to manually enter cap gains info on Sch D, you are given a warning that This form may require an upgrade of TurboTax. The charge for that upgrade to Premier is $30.
The product description still shows the same comparison of version functions as it did in prior years but does not mention that TT has deleted the ability to work on Sch C (unless you have very limited activity and expenses less than $100), Sch D transactions, Sch E or Sch F.
I have been a user of TT Deluxe for over 20 years. I do not understand why TT would damage their corporate reputation by changing the product this way without making it clear that deluxe had been so materially downgraded. I understand corporate profit motives, but just raise the Deluxe price and keep your product consistency. Don't blindside your long established customers who are your early adopters (buying before tax season starts).
I will be returning my copy to amazon and asking for a refund then explore other options. I am leaning towards H&R Block Deluxe Tax Software which not only provides the Schedule D reporting I need but is less expensive than Turbo Tax. I also plan to warn several friends who have used Turbo Tax Deluxe based on my recommendations in the past so they do not make the same mistake I made for 2014.
