Now I understand why a separate clamp is "frequently bought together." The clamp does not work AT ALL. The threads do not catch; the screw is too small for the hole. Because I really needed this lamp immediately, I tried wrapping the screw in plumbers tape. No go. I ended up simply drilling a hole through the shelf where I needed the light, but it's not very secure. I would just buy the dam,n extra clamp, except it's an "add-on item" -- I have to s[pend MORE money in order to get it. The lamp itself works fine, though the assembly instructions were pathetically inadequate. But I have never been so completely angry and disgusted with an Amazon purchase. The clamp is a useless piece of crap, which severely limits the lamp's usefulness. Garbage!
