I have a suspicion that the product that I received was not authentic. Visually, the product seems to have all of the hallmarks of an authentic product: tight cellophane wrapper, quality cardboard box, holographic sticker, embossed batch code on the box which matches the bottle. The atomizer did have a very slight breach on its seal, but otherwise the cap and the bottle looked authentic.
The fragrance is very similar to what I remembered Acqua Di Gio smelling like, though it had been several years since I had last worn it. Perhaps a slight bit spicier and more citrusy. However, what clued me in to it not being authentic is that it gave me a severe headache almost immediately after spraying it on. I went to Macy's to sample a known authentic bottle, and that fragrance did not give me a headache.
The fact that the product (as of Sept 2017) was sold and shipped by Amazon convinced me that the bottle was more likely to be authentic despite the conflicting reviews. It seems as though that is not enough of an endorsement. Amazon has since refunded my purchase and escalated my return to their special review team. I had also seen a similarly priced 6.7 oz bottle on Target.com, so it didn't appear that the price was too good to be true.
