The GR1 works just fine but it is impossible to clean and there is no temperature control. Those are it's faults. You can buy the GR35 at Costco for $39, it is the same size and it has an on off switch with temperature control,and the plates are removable and flat on one side. I did not like sandwiches that were like waffels when you heat them from the grooved side of the plate. I use the smooth side so they look like they were done in a pan. If you think wiping out grooves is easy just try it for it is not. With the temperature control you can slow heat the sandwich so the whole sandwich gets hot rather then just the outside. To turn on the GR1 you must pull the plug in and out of the wall each time, this is just wrong, it will arc each time you do it, this is hard on the wall side and will wear it out. A very bad way to control anything electric. Get the GR35. My GR1 is going on ebay.
