This is not a negative review. This is merely a note detailing differences from the exact previous model and suggestions for improvement. I am very pleased with these lamps, as most all will be. The model referenced in this review IS the 3 color natural wood model. I suggest buying the three color model unless you enjoy highly artificial "Cool" light typically used for dentistry and surgery. ("Cool" is truly horrid and only good when intense light is required) The "Soft" is a very bright daylight, the "Warm" is morning / evening daylight. (Warm is very pleasant) The previous model was much sturdier. 1 /1/4" (32mm) diameter main shafts. Lamp head thickness 2" (50mm) New model (2nd Edition) is lighter. 7/8" (22mm) diameter main shafts. Lamp head thickness 7/8" (22mm) The new base is shorter and lighter than previous as well. The stability IS similar between the two models. Engineering wise, the previous model is much sturdier and has one critical advantage. The advantage is heat dissipation. The 2 inch thick lamp head (previous) had more free air space to help dissipate heat. (more durable) The new model 7/8" thick is very poor at heat dissipation and the outside of the lamp actually becomes hot to the touch. Previous model did not become hot to the touch. Last but not least... There needs to be a way to turn off the lighted On/Off button. The button light is useful in some places but just plain annoying in others. I would suggest an optional snap on flexible cap. (I glued a rubber cap in place on mine) BE AWARE!!!!! the power supplies / transformers / wall warts, (or whatever the cute urban slang is used to identify an AC/DC power supply this week may be) are NOT THE SAME BETWEEN ALL MODELS from Brightech. Some of the power supplies are 14 Volt, others are 18 Volt. (don't try to substitute or swap power supplies) Repeat, these are very nice lamps. The 1 star rating is used so somebody will be better informed.
