I couldn't wait to read this book with all the pre-order hype that surrounded it, and now that I've finished it, I'm sorry I ever bought it. I hadn't read any of the author's previous books, but this one looked really good. I thought the beginning was rather melodramatic, but as tension built in the middle section, I couldn't put it down. Great writing. Great character development. And then I came to the final third of the book and I couldn't believe what I was reading. Steven King's "Misery" was a joy ride compared to this. I have never read a book that took human and animal cruelty to such an extent.
