Great looking, solid flatware that was worth the purchase (so far)
ORIGINAL REVIEW - JUNE 2017 So far my husband and I love this set of flatware. We had recently purchased a set of 18/10 silverware by WMF that rusted the very first time we washed them (and no, we didn't use a citrus-based cleanser or soak them) and decided that we would need to pay a little more for something that would actually last and be a worthy investment. After doing a lot of research we settled on the Knork black titanium set, because of how unique they look, because my husband enjoys cutting with his fork and that is the primary idea behind the set, because they are heavier and more solid then other cutlery is reputed to be, and because the titanium is supposed to lend extra strength to them. The set is stunning in person. The butter knives are sharp and cut competently through the meats we have tried them on thus far, where with previous sets we have had to use steak knives with just about every protein. They have washed in the dishwasher with no problems and have retained their luster. The forks actually do cut like knives and there is a substantial, weighted feeling to the set that I haven't experienced previously with any other flatware through my conscious memory, though if you have small hands as I do they take a little bit to get accustomed to. They have a good balance, haven't scratched, and even though they occasionally retain water spots, they wipe clean with a quick rub of our fingers. We also purchased the double spoon serving sets to go with them and are just as impressed by those. Another thing we love about them is that their solid nature has, so far, prevented heat from traveling into them. Usually a utensil absorbs heat when we make our oatmeal or tea, but these remain the same neutral temperature and we don't absentmindedly burn our tongues on them, which is a huge bonus in our book. While the price up front made us clutch our hearts and wheeze a little, the price for the expected lifetime of the utensils translates into pennies, and we made this purchase to last us that expected lifetime. So far they have been worth the purchase. I will make an attempt to remember a few months from now or if something happens to update this post at that time and provide a report on their longevity. UPDATE - OCTOBER 2017 It has been 4 months and already the Knorks have failed us. We do not use lemon or citrus detergent and did not soak these utensils. We also made sure they were dry and wiped them down coming out of the dishwasher. Our forks and knives have rust all over them (see photos) and in one case a spoon's finish has completely failed and cracked; in addition, although we sort like with like in the dishwasher, the forks are completely scratched and rusted. We would not purchase these again and of course they failed just after the return date closed. Would not buy again.
