Great steps ! But be warned learn from my experience they can severely damage your truck!
I have just rewrote my review after 8 month. I want to warn all the guys out there that have a new truck want this steps . They are great steps function well and look great, I had a set on my 2012 F250 and loved them when I ordered my 2018 F250 I purchased a set for it I had the steps for 2 weeks before I took delivery of my truck. My truck had less then 100 miles on it when I installed them the installation was easier then my first set because this was the new "plug and play". My new 72,000 dollar truck started having some minor electrical glitches and odd electrical issues like radio would turn on by itself, touch screen and some dash lights would stay on long after truck was off and locked.I didn't know what to think of the weird things happening but I figured it is a new truck we will just see what happens and when I bring it in for its first service they can check it out. As time went on the electrical glitches got worse to the point that when you put the key into ignition the truck would start itself without turning the key, 8 months later 2,200 miles on the truck I stopped at a red light and the truck died and would not restart. After having the truck towed to my dealer the start of 6 week nightmare began every warning message came up on dash truck was having a major electrical meltdown . Dealer ran test after test on the phone with Ford engineers they were going to change the main wire harness in the truck but first they decided to change PCM and truck was still acting up the decision was made to change wire harness but in their conversation with Ford engineers it was brought up that if there was any aftermarket accessaries were plugged into OBD port that could cause issues. Lucky for me my dealer didn't mention I did have the steps plugged in to OBD port. They unplugged the steps and with the new PCM truck operated normally and they told to pick up the truck and not to plug the steps back in. Ford could of denied the warranty claim because of it having the steps plugged in and I would of been on the hook for 6 weeks of rental car parts and who knows how many hours of shop labor. My dealer took care of me , when I got home from picking up the truck I called Amp Research tech help line. I explained everything that happened and the guy told me " sounds like you have a defective OBD plug send me a copy of your receipt and I can send you a new one that is what I can do for you" I asked him if anyone else has reported a similar problem he told me " yes I have heard of some problems but nothing as severe as you describe and it is a low percentage compared to the number of steps they sell" I could not believe it , I told him there is now Way I am plugging those steps into my OBD port again so keep your plug . I tried to get him to understand the serious issue their steps caused I was very close to pursuing a lemon law buy back on my special order truck , I was without my truck for 6 weeks! And if not for the dealer I could of been on the hook for a massive repair bill and car rental. He seemed to shrug it off like it was not their problem . I am stuck with no operational steps , I like the steps so I will retrofit them to trigger off a separate switch that has nothing to do with the trucks wiring .
Please learn something from my unfortunate experience yes they are great steps but if it shuts down your brand new 72,000 dollar truck is it worth it, and don't expect Amp Research to pretend like they care or offer a apology.
