Buyer Beware - Misleading Information on Product Change
I purchased this product because of its nutritional value. It was reviewed by Consumer Labs and had 200 mg Flavanols per 5 gram serving, which was the highest flavanol ratio to serving size and the amount of cadmium was lower as well per nutritional value. It was the best of all the powders reviewed by Consumer Labs. Now the company has changed the product The new version has 200mg of Flavanols per 20 grams serving size... 1/4th the amount in the original product, which puts it below average in the products reviewed.
The pictures on this product on Amazon’s page are too small, even enlarged, to read the detail of ingredients & nutritional information. Consumer Labs contacted the co-founder, Nick Salter, of the company and he stated that they went with a lower flavanol blend primarily because of cost. The large print that you can read on the package still states it is a high flavanol product which it is not. You have to take 4X as much to get the same flavanols which also means you're taking in quite a bit more cadmium (which is a heavy metal - possible carcinogen).
As an example…. Common Hershey's Cacao Unsweetened Powder is far less expensive and has better nutrition than the new Aduna product. 20 grams of Hershey’s will give you 500mg of flavanols.
I originally ordered the Aduna Super Cacao (not "Super" any longer) on July 23, 2017. The estimated delivery was between August 6 - 9. My Amazon order states "shipped" but the time keeps getting pushed. As of this writing on August 19th, the estimated delivery is now August 30. I tried to cancel the product, but the company has a "no returns" policy. It's not enough money to hassle with, but I hope this review will expose Aduna's misleading advertising and the product change which makes it far more expensive for what you will now receive.
For those interested in the nutritional value (and overall health), I recommend Consumerlab.com. I have been a member since they started in 1999. They are an independent testing lab, and my "go to" website for nutritional product reviews, encyclopedia of conditions, and supplements. The Aduna update to their Cocoa Powder reviews was published on their website on July 27, 2017 and is highlighted in the overview section of the reviews.
