Paddles are designed to work only for a few years. Then they start to peel off the coating and you are in the risk of food contamination. We had a Panisonic bread machine and have used it for over 20 years without any problem. But this one, though cost twice, is not designed for last long! The problem of the disposable paddles is not only the replacement cost, but more seriously, the risk of contamination. Often, you find it too late - you have already consumed a lots of flakes and powders shattered from the pair of low-quality paddles. We called Zojirushi customer service and they deny any defects in their product, rather, they told us that we are supposed to replace paddles regularly. Hey, they only tell you so when you find these paddles damaged. They do not give us warning in production description or even in their owner's manual. They simply do not care about consumers' health. Avoid Zojirushi - a brand of low quality products disguised by high cost.
